A 44-company alliance led by Honda, Sony, and other major corporations is developing domestically-produced AI with up to 1 trillion yen in government support. The project plans to release a foundation model in fiscal 2026 and evolve it to handle images and audio. By fiscal 2030, the AI is expected to become an intelligent system capable of understanding, predicting and reproducing real-world information. The government will procure approximately 27,500 AI semiconductors from NVIDIA and establish a dedicated computing facility in Sakai by 2028.
