JIC and Atomico convene global VC leaders to strengthen Japan’s “Go Global” strategy

#vc, #ecosystem

Japan Investment Corporation (JIC) co-hosted a strategic exchange with Atomico on January 29, aimed at strengthening Japan’s venture capital ecosystem and accelerating global expansion support for startups.

The event welcomed 17 representatives from JIC-backed domestic VC firms. The discussion was led by Niklas Zennström, founder of Atomico and co-founder of Skype, who shared insights from building one of Europe’s most prominent founder-led venture capital platforms.

Key themes included organizational development, governance frameworks, investment committee processes, talent evaluation, and the strategic importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in fund management. Participants engaged in practical dialogue on how Japanese VC firms can evolve into globally competitive institutions capable of supporting startups entering overseas markets.

The session is part of JIC’s broader “Go Global” strategy, which includes LP investments in leading international VC funds.
