The Kansai Regional Union has announced the Kansai Startup Ecosystem Communication Strategy (2025–2029), a new initiative designed to strengthen global awareness of the region’s deeptech ecosystem.

The Kansai region has a strong research capability in areas such as life sciences, regenerative medicine, drug discovery, green transformation (GX), AI, and quantum computing. With the 2025 Expo in Osaka, international attention toward the region’s innovation activities and startup ecosystem has been steadily increasing.

However, compared with global cities of similar economic scale, Kansai still faces challenges in improving its international visibility in rankings such as the Global Startup Ecosystem Ranking (GSER) published by Startup Genome. The new strategy aims to address this by promoting startup achievements, investment activities, and research outputs more systematically to global audiences.

The strategy is built on three main pillars: establishing the “DeepTech Frontier Kansai” brand, organizing regional startup ecosystem information through a centralized portal, and expanding international outreach through global databases, media platforms, and events.
