Kawasaki has renewed its economic cooperation agreement with BioM, the biotechnology cluster organization based in Munich, Germany.
The memorandum of understanding (MOU), signed in February extends the partnership for another three years, until 2029. The agreement marks the fourth renewal since the first MOU was signed in 2017.
In this latest update, the Kawasaki Institute of Industrial Promotion (KIIP) has joined the partnership alongside Kawasaki City and BioM. The new three-party framework aims to deepen cooperation in cluster management, startup support, and innovation development.
A key focus of the collaboration is Kawasaki’s King Skyfront district, an innovation hub located near Haneda Airport. The 40-hectare area hosts around 80 research institutions, companies, and universities working in fields such as healthcare, medical technology, and environmental innovation.
Over the past eight years, the partnership has facilitated business matching events, delegation visits, and ecosystem exchanges connecting startups, incubators, and research institutions in both regions.
With KIIP now formally involved, the collaboration is expected to further expand incubation programs and international opportunities for life sciences startups in Japan and Germany.
