Kyoto Fusioneering Raises 25.7 Billion Yen in Series D, Valuation Exceeds 100 Billion Yen

Kyoto Fusioneering announced that it completed the first close of Series D funding, raising a total of 25.72 billion yen. This valuation exceeded 100 billion yen, making it Japan's first unicorn-equivalent fusion energy startup. The company raised 16.72 billion yen in equity and approximately 5 billion yen in debt from 14 investors including JR East and the GX Promotion Organization.

Founded in 2019 as a Kyoto University spin-off, the company develops core technologies for fusion energy realization. Orders for fusion reactor peripheral equipment have grown strong in Europe and North America, strengthening its global competitiveness. The company plans to expand into Asia, including South Korea, and aims to become a true unicorn enterprise (valuation exceeding 1 billion dollars).

The raised capital will fund the UNITY Program integration demonstration project across Japan, Canada, and the U.S., technology development, capital investments, and global business expansion. Kyoto Fusioneering's success as a university spin-off demonstrates that Japan's startup ecosystem has competitive advantages in cutting-edge technology fields. As a prime example of large-scale public-private partnership investment, it symbolizes new trends in Japan's startup cultivation policies.
