Lawson to Enter Indian Market in 2027, Opening Flagship Stores in Mumbai with Plans for 100 Locations by 2030

Lawson announced its plans to enter the Indian market in 2027, opening five flagship stores in Mumbai initially, with expansion to 100 locations by 2030. As domestic expansion opportunities become limited, the company aims to develop demand from India's growing middle class in this economically expanding giant market. Leveraging its product development expertise and store operation know-how refined in Japan, Lawson seeks to establish India as a major overseas business pillar comparable to China.

The company will establish a wholly-owned local subsidiary during fiscal 2026 and open five directly-operated stores in Mumbai in 2027. The company will carefully assess location conditions and local demand while building supply chains. Stores will feature merchandise adapted to local food habits, including offerings of onigiri and sandwiches.

With India boasting the world's largest population and strong growth prospects, Lawson aims to develop this market as a new revenue pillar for its overseas operations. The company has ambitious long-term goals of establishing 10,000 stores by 2050.
