Covidien Japan, a Medtronic subsidiary, launched "Touch Surgery ecosystem," a digital platform supporting surgical education and training, in April 2026. The platform uses AI and data analytics to help surgeons systematically acquire surgical techniques and is compatible with Medtronic's Hugo robot-assisted surgical system as well as other robotic platforms and laparoscopic surgery. As Japan faces challenges in surgeon training and standardization of surgical techniques due to evolving medical education environments, the platform aims to improve surgical education quality through structured case reviews and individualized learning pathways.
