NTT Achieves 2 Terabit-per-Second Wireless Transmission at 100m in Sub-Terahertz Band

In September, NTT announced that it had succeeded in achieving the world’s fastest wireless transmission in the sub-terahertz band, at 2 terabits per second over a distance of 100 meters. By utilizing the low latency and power efficiency of analogue signal processing, this technology offers a new option for supporting AI data centre and base station networks in the IOWN (Integrated Optical and Wireless Network)/6G era. The use of the sub-terahertz band makes it possible to achieve ultra-high-speed communications whilst significantly reducing power consumption compared to conventional electrical signal processing. This success marks a major step towards the realisation of next-generation communications infrastructure and is expected to serve as a foundational technology for the 6G era. NTT states that it will continue to develop this technology towards practical application and support the construction of future data centers and base station networks, which will center on AI processing.
