Okayama Prefecture adopts new approach to startup support

Okayama Prefecture has launched a new initiative to support startups, where it will establish a system to conduct group training for entrepreneurs selected through an open call to accelerate their growth. Experts with experience in entrepreneurship and VC launches will provide ongoing support, guiding participants through practical training to get their businesses on track.

Titled ‘Startup HARE-RISE Project,’ the program will hold group training sessions twice a month in Okayama City from September through January. Eligible participants are local companies founded within roughly the last 10 years, or university spin-offs that either have a base within the prefecture or are conducting (or plan to conduct) business with companies within the prefecture. Approximately 10 companies will be selected from the screening process.

During the training, experts will provide guidance and help refine aspects such as business vision, product/service content based on market needs and target customers, and business/funding plans. In January 2026, participants will present their results to VCs and local financial institutions, with the top performer receiving priority consideration for VC investment, and outstanding participants gaining the opportunity to pitch in Tokyo.
