OptQC Partners with NTT for Optical Quantum Computer Development Targeting 1M Qubits by 2030

OptQC, a University of Tokyo-originated startup, announced a capital and business partnership with NTT on August 3, 2026, to accelerate the practical implementation and commercialization of optical quantum computers.

OptQC plans to develop a 10,000-qubit-class quantum computer by FY2027 and establish a 1-million-qubit-class "fault-tolerant quantum computer" by FY2030. In July 2026, the company successfully operated "MoQuren," Japan's first privately-developed optical quantum computer, at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology facility.

Through the partnership, OptQC's optical quantum computing technology will be integrated with NTT's expertise in optical communications, networking, and data center infrastructure. Joint research through FY2027 aims to complete system architecture design and key component technology specifications.
