Sendai startups explore India’s biotech ecosystem

#innovation, #deeptech, #events

Three startups from Sendai participated in Bio Asia 2026, one of Asia’s largest life sciences conferences, held in February in Hyderabad, India. The delegation was organized by JETRO as part of Japan’s national Startup Ecosystem Hub Cities initiative, which supports globally competitive startup ecosystems across the country.

The Sendai delegation included Ailart, a Tohoku University spinout developing AI-powered radiation therapy planning software; NanoFrontier, another Tohoku University startup focusing on nanoparticle technologies for organic materials; and VitroVo, a Tohoku Institute of Technology spinout developing compound evaluation systems for neural and cardiac cells using microelectrode arrays and AI.

Bio Asia brings together global pharmaceutical companies, biotech startups, investors, and research institutions. Hyderabad has rapidly developed into a major technology and R&D hub, attracting multinational companies such as Google and Uber and earning the nickname “India’s second Silicon Valley” after Bengaluru.

Beyond the exhibition, the delegation also visited Genome Valley, a major life science R&D cluster, and T-Hub, one of the world’s largest startup incubators.
