Toyota to Deploy Advanced Autonomous Driving AI in 2028, Pursuing Full In-House Development

Toyota announced plans to deploy advanced autonomous driving technology at Level 2++ on consumer vehicles starting in 2028, representing a major shift toward in-house development of end-to-end (E2E) AI models. The technology enables vehicles to operate with minimal driver intervention, positioning Toyota alongside Tesla and Chinese EV makers in the autonomous driving competition. Toyota aims to gradually expand deployment to more vehicle models from 2030 onwards, pursuing independent technological development while maintaining driver safety through hybrid approaches combining rule-based systems with AI.
