Ultra-compact EV MiBot enters pre-mass production phase with strategic Idemitsu partnership

#sustainability, #deeptech

Japanese EV startup KG Motors has moved into the pre-mass production phase of its ultra-compact electric vehicle MiBot, marking a major milestone following its first customer delivery in December 2025. The company is now preparing for full-scale production scheduled to begin in April 2026.

MiBot is a single-seat electric vehicle designed specifically for short urban commutes. It offers approximately 100 kilometers of range, a top speed of 60 km/h, and an accessible price point of around JPY1 million (US$6,415). By focusing on minimalism and affordability, KG Motors aims to address practical daily mobility needs in Japan’s densely populated cities, where compact transportation solutions are increasingly in demand.

In January 2026, KG Motors signed a strategic partnership agreement with Idemitsu Kosan, a major oil refiner and gas station operator. Under the agreement, Idemitsu will provide sales support, delivery coordination, insurance services, and after-sales maintenance. Starting in April, pilot e-mobility services will be introduced at selected Idemitsu gas stations in Tokyo and Hiroshima, aligning with a planned production volume of 300 to 500 units per month.
