The government has solidified its examination framework for 17 strategic fields including foodtech ahead of the summer 2026 growth strategy compilation. The Agriculture Ministry announced the establishment of a fermented microorganism food working team at the Foodtech Public-Private Council general meeting, establishing a system to develop sustainable food materials utilizing koji and mushroom mycelium.
Large-scale investment in the foodtech sector is expected to drive rapid growth in related domestic industries, spurring new company participation and business expansion by existing firms. Japanese innovative food technologies are expected to gain competitiveness in global markets, opening paths for Japan to contribute to resolving international food challenges.
