On January 16, the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) launched the Keihanshin Asia Acceleration Program (GRIP JAPAN), alongside Kyoto University and the National University of Singapore (NUS). The program supports the commercialization of early‑stage research seeds and help build internationally competitive deep‑tech startups.
GRIP JAPAN marks the first time Japan benefits directly from NUS’s national GRIP framework. It focuses on research seeds in four areas selected from Kyoto University’s advanced projects, covering fields such as heat‑resistant semiconductors, artificial blood vessels, new tea‑based beverages, and solutions addressing social isolation.
Over a four‑month period, selected teams will receive mentoring in market and competition analysis, value‑chain assessment, and business‑model development. Participants also join on‑site workshops in Singapore, where they engage with investors, industry partners, and members of the local startup ecosystem. The program culminates in a demo day held in Kyoto in March 2026.
